How do I manually uninstall ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro?

Issue

  • You receive the error message "Uninstallation completed with error" or "Uninstall Failed" when uninstalling ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro
  • You receive the error message "Uninstall Failed" when upgrading from ESET Cybersecurity (4.x) to a later version of ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro

Solution

Begin with part I

Only proceed to part II if your issue is not resolved.

I. Manually remove ESET Cyber Security Pro or ESET Cyber Security

  1. Close any ESET windows including the ESET Cyber Security Setup window if it is open.
     
  2. From the menu bar click Go Utilities.

  1. Double-click Activity Monitor in the Utilities window.

  1. Select ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro, click Quit Process and then click Force Quit when prompted. If no entry for ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro is present, proceed to step 5.

  1. Open the Applications window by clicking  Finder  Applications. Drag the entry for ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro to the Trash and enter your administrator password when prompted. If no entry for ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro is present, proceed to solution II below.

About upgrading

If you are upgrading from ESET Cybersecurity (4.x) to a later version of ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro, follow the instructions from the appropriate Knowledgebase article below to install your new ESET product:

II. Uninstall using the ESET Cyber Security .dmg

  1. Insert the ESET Cyber Security CD into your computer and double-click the ESET icon on your Desktop. If you downloaded ESET from the internet, click the install package in your Downloads folder (or the default folder set by your browser).
    • If you do not have the retail disk or install package you can download the install package from the Home Downloads page.

  1. Double-click the Uninstall icon and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall ESET Cyber Security.

If you receive "Identity of the installer cannot be confirmed"

If installation of ESET products is being blocked, hold CTRL + click (or right-click if you have a two-button mouse) the installer file, select Open from the context menu and then click Open when you are prompted by Apple gatekeeper.   1. Click Close to exit the uninstaller.
     
  2. Restart your computer.
